Maria Castro

PhD student

Maria Castro, M.Sc., is a PhD candidate in Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona. She holds a M.Sc. in Hydraulics and Sanitation at the University of São Paulo, specializing in hydrologic-hydrodynamic modeling. Her main research involves the development of a Monte-Carlo probabilistic ensemble model to estimate dam-break flood hazards considering uncertainty in reservoir initial conditions, breach size, and terrain roughness. Maria also has experience with field groundwater data collection, addressing water scarcity, and developing sustainable water solutions through managed aquifer recharge and innovative monitoring systems.
